Machine Enclosing

Our extensive Enclosing facilities form the hub of our Direct Mail services. Utilising both machines for automated enclosing and our permanent Hand-Fulfilment team, we can undertake any Enclosing project from 500 items to 500,000. These enclosing facilities are backed up by Laser Printing of personalised letters and forms, Ink-Jet Addressing onto envelopes, Litho Printing of letterheads, leaflets, newsletters and booklets, Polywrapping of magazines and mail order catalogues. Our enclosing equipment includes a range of machines for paper envelopes ranging from the small C6 envelopes up to the large C4 or even 10” x 12” envelopes, with an output of around 200,000 items per day. On our latest C4 enclosing machine, we are also able to offer Variable / Selective Inserting and OCR camera-matching of the first two items, so for example, we can insert a personalised letter plus a matching fax-back form in the same envelope with 100% accuracy. We can either supply envelopes for you or use your own stock. When using enclosing machinery, it is always essential to supply Machinable Envelopes.

Machinable Envelopes

Our Hand Fulfilment team can use whatever envelopes , polybags or cartons are required, however enclosing machines can only operate using Machinable Paper Envelopes. Machinable Envelopes are paper envelopes which open along the long edge (they are therefore “wallets” and not “pockets”. They must also be sealed using a water-moistened gum – self-seal flaps are not usable. The flaps must also be fairly small and designed to work on an enclosing machine – the standard greetings-card envelopes are generally not machinable. If in doubt, your Account Manager can advise you. We are of course happy to supply and print envelopes for you. All polybags must be filled and sealed by hand.

Variable/Selective Inserting

In general terms, it is more efficient and therefore cheaper, to mail larger quantities as machines can run faster and the extra work required for Mailsort and Presstream is proportionately reduced and the discounts available are increased. However, in most cases, this means that all items must be identical – the same number of enclosures and the same overall weight. Where a project requires one group of people to receive one leaflet with their magazine, for example, and another group of people to receive a different one, this would normally be done as two entirely separate mailings. This can be avoided in some circumstances by Variable / Selective Inserting. By coding each address record with the appropriate leaflet enclosures, it is possible, both our Polywrapping line and our latest Enclosing machine, to selectively insert different items into each envelope or wrap. Your Account Manager will advise you on whether this is likely to be a cost-effective option for you.
